Of course, it’s not been all good. In fact, at some points (largely the moments involving Sandi Thom), it’s been rather hideous. But, what the hell, let’s just celebrate those hideous moments too.

5. The Killers – Sam’s Town

Described as ‘the year’s biggest disappointment’ by one panel member, I haven’t actually heard this so if you wish to complain about its inclusion, said panel member’s name is Lauren Dobbs and she is very nice.

4. Christina Aguilera – Back To Basics
This album is pompous, indulgent and humourless, and at least one whole disc too long. At one point, Christina name-checks such luminaries as Marvin Gaye – does she actually think she is anywhere near as good? Whilst I appreciate the voice, does Aguilera really have such little discipline as to take it to church every single song? And the track where she plays her fans thank-you messages is vomit-inducing. There is a good album in here somewhere but with two discs worth of material and more interludes than a Janet Jackson album, it desperately needed some official to tell Aggy that half her stuff was cack.

3. The Pipettes – We Are The Pipettes
I feel bad about putting this here because The Pipettes are not all that successful. But really, with their matching costumes and identikit songs, they are a one-trick pony that’s stuck in a very deep rut. A whole album of their 60s girl group pastiche just glaringly highlights their dismal vocals (either shouty or whiney), their lack of any range and failure to come anywhere near to matching their original inspirations. I bought it and after several listens and desperate attempts to like it, promptly sold it on ebay. Its only saving grace is that it has a very short running time, 3 minutes of which is the divine Pull Shapes.

2. Razorlight – Razorlight
Back to the panel for their verdict – ‘although this album was listen-able, it was over anticipated and you didn’t want the world to stand still so you could really launch yourself into it’. Got that? Plus, Johnny Borrell is a nob in anyone’s language.

1. Sandi Thom – Smile… It Confuses People
In order to not confuse, I’ll keep it simple – just go away.
