Are Le Kid this year’s summer smash?

At teentoday.co.uk towers, we have been patiently twiddling our thumbs awaiting the obligatory smash hit of the summer. Well… we might just have found it. Rather than the usual claptrap from some Europop DJ, Sweden’s Le Kid have delivered what sounds suspiciously like the goods in the form of Mercy Mercy. Click see more to have a listen and let us know what you think.

Combined with a carefree video where Le Kid look like they’re having a total ball, Mercy Mercy has had us sporting bigger grins than the prospect of Murray making the Wimbledon final. OK, the fact that it is so instantaneously infectious might be due it sounding like Girls Aloud’s Can’t Speak French on heat but right from the shouty opening lines, it’s splashy summer fun at its best.

For those of you that care about this sort of thing (and given we dedicated a whole month to Scandipop, obviously we do!), some of Le Kid’s members are already Swedish pop royalty thanks to their work on and with various Scandipop gems (see their interview at Don’t Stop The Pop for more). Unlike most Europop summer smashes of years gone by, Le Kid look like being far from one-hit wonders judging by the other song on their Myspace, the equally fantastic Telephone; they’ve also been working with the people behind Agne’s awesome Release Me and are already promising us an album featuring, wonder of all wonders, no filler.

So now we’ve found our summer smash, we’re gonna have to twiddle our thumbs until Le Kid’s album comes out instead!

Do you think Mercy Mercy will be a summer smash?
