Task One – Monologue
Write a monologue to be spoken by one character, in any situation of your devising, on stage.
Maximum length: 300 words.

Task Two – Poetry
Write a poem on a subject and in the form of your own choice.
Maximum length: 20 lines

Task Three – Prose
Write a paragraph of prose fiction (maximum twelve lines) beginning with the sentence ‘He/She always had to be dressed this way’.
You are not expected to tell the story, simply to give a ‘taste’ or ‘snippet’ from a longer story, providing some situation which offers a context to the first sentence, in a way that will interest a reader.

Task Four – Language Exercise
A) Choose any English word that interests you
B) State what it is about the word that interests you.
C) Find out all you can about this word and write a brief account of the history of this word and it’s use(s) in English.
Maximum length: 150 words

Task Five – Statement
Write a brief statement explaining:
Why you are applying for this course
And
What you have to offer fellow students.
Maximum length: 250 words

I don’t need them! I don’t. I don’t want to end up like any of them. Oohh.. they all think they’re so bloody remarkable, sat there in their expensive suits, with their fucking qualifications – a string of letters after their name, that’s all! And they think, see, they think those stupid little letters mean that they can look right down their nose at me. They think that a few stupid pieces of paper with writing on make them better human beings than me! I may not wear a suit, I may not be as ‘educated’ as them, I may not have gone to Oxford or sodding bloody Cambridge! But do you know what? They’re not even human beings, they’re all robots. Cold, emotionless robots that care about nothing but stocks and shares and profit. And as for passion. Passion! They try to tell me about passion.. you don’t know the meanin of the flamin’ word! They’ve got a passion all right, a passion to do over as many people as it takes to maximise their profits. People like me! And then they expect me to come and work here, with them.. pfft.. I’d rather live off pennies, thanks.
