Teentoday.co.uk’s Top 11 Albums Of 2009

All made our Top 11… but in what order?

For our Top 11 Singles of 2009, we threw the vote open to you guys and the response was great. Alas, democracy is overrated and there must be some perks to being Music Editor so our list of the Top 11 Albums of 2009 comes from my pen (or cursor in Word) alone. However, that does mean you are allowed to disagree, throw things and wag your finger in the Comments section to your heart’s content (or even, shock horror, agree with us!). So here it is, in all its (late) glory… Teentoday.co.uk’s Top 11 Albums of 2009. Enjoy.

All made our top 11… but in what order?

We asked for your input into Teentoday.co.uk’s Top Singles of 2009 and you didn’t disappoint; thanks for your excellent comments, some of which you can read in our list. What became clear was that if you lot got your way, Cheryl Cole would top the list. Sorry but as long as I have ears through which I can hear things, Cheryl will not be winning any prizes for her songs on my watch. Come on, there have to be some perks to being Music Editor (and let me tell you, money certainly isn’t one of them!). Here’s our top 11 – and here’s hoping 2010 will be just as good.

The Veronicas - Hook Me Up album review

I’ll admit to becoming slightly obsessed with Untouched, the pop behemoth that kicks things off on Hook Me Up. That’s slightly unfortunate for the rest of The Veronicas’ second album, as it means I spend at least half an hour hitting the replay button before even considering moving on. Shame because, whilst nothing is as obviously brilliant as Untouched, Hook Me Up has a lot more excellence to offer.

Nerina Pallot - The Graduate review

Every once in a while, along comes an artist who doesn’t make a big song and dance about how talented they are, who isn’t constantly being papped and whose music doesn’t try too hard to be cool or make belated attempts to jump on bandwagons. They plod along quietly, doing their own thing and doing it bloody well, without the masses even batting an eyelid. Nerina Pallot is one such artist and let me tell you something – it’s the masses’ loss. In a big way. Pallot is wonderful and so is The Graduate.

Alesha Dixon - The Alesha Show: Encore review

From the sublime of re-releases (Lady Gaga’s The Fame Monster) to the ridiculous. OK, the re-release of Alesha Dixon’s The Alesha Show (full review here) isn’t exactly ridiculous (some thought – at least five minutes or so – has gone into the Encore subtitle) – it’s just the kind of sub-standard re-release from record companies keen to cash in with minimal cash spent that we’re used to but which Gaga’s work has rightly shown up as the paltry can’t be arsed effort that it is. The Alesha Show: Encore is at least free of the usual charity single/ropey cover/spot the guest vocal tracks and instead offers four original songs and some classy new cover art. Track-by-track review below.
