Sophie Ellis Bextor, Girls Can’t Catch and The Saturdays caught live!

If you’re in London you’ve probably noticed the iTunes festival trundling on by all last month bringing a load of bands from Oasis to Snow Patrol to newcomers like Raygun (who we’re interviewing later today) and Kid British to the Roundhouse all for free. Last Monday night was handed over solely to the world of pop music as Fascination Records (the label behind Girls Aloud) took over, bringing with them a load of shiny stage props and three of their (and our) favourite pop acts. Headlined by The Saturdays and opened by Sophie Ellis Bextor, the night actually was a cleverly put together introduction (for most people) to Girls Can’t Catch sandwiched between two massive acts. They might have been up and down the country on support tours over the last three months, but this really gave Phoebe, Jess and Daizy the opportunity to put together a proper stage show.

Girls Can’t Catch - exclusive track-by-track review of their sampler

Exclusive preview of Girls Can’t Catch’s album

We’ll admit we’ve been distracted by the lippy loopy of The Dolly Rockers, but we’ve finally come round to the idea of Girls Can’t Catch – as evidenced by our epic saga of interviews with them (Part 2 just up!) and the fact they sent us an album sampler which is actually really very good. Click see more for our track-by-track review of their sampler, which we believe may be the first of its kind, meaning yay, teentoday.co.uk exclusive!

Florence & The Machine - Lungs album review

Possibly interpreting Rabbit Hearted Girl a bit too literally

Back when we first told you about the BBC’s Sound of 2009 list, we already proclaimed Florence & The Machine as our favourite out of the top five. Admittedly, this may have been a bit hasty given how little of her material we had heard but now is teentoday.co.uk’s moment to proudly declare ‘told you so’. Lungs is basically brilliant.

Jordin Sparks - Battlefield album review

We want this to be the album cover

Jordin Sparks’ second album, Battlefield, is impressive for several things… sadly, none of these things relate to the overall quality of the music.

Alex Roots live review on video - plus we try and outstare Alex

teentoday.co.uk loves Alex Roots - live review (sort of)

In our continuing quest to bring you the best in new music we headed down to the Alex Roots showcase in Hoxton Square’s Underbelly (yes, the same place where we fell in love with The Dolly Rockers) to watch the 16 year old deliver a 7-song live set (well, it was about 7 songs- we were pretty pissed by the end and it’s all a bit of a blur). Click see more to watch a rather shambolic video review of the show and teentoday.co.uk’s editor Olly try and outstare Alex in a futile effort to win a pair of sunglasses.

VV Brown - Travelling Like The Light album review

She takes that bloody keyboard everywhere

We first wrote about VV Brown back in November, posing the question ‘Is VV Brown vv good?’ The answer was yes by the way but no-one seemed to take much notice, with first single Crying Blood flopping, second single LEAVE! flopping and third single Shark In The Water currently doing slightly-better-than-flopping-but-still-flopping-nonetheless. Now her album, Travelling Like The Light has arrived and all I can reiterate is: VV Brown is vv good. Seriously.
