Men are from Mars, women are from Venus - the Hollywood romantic cliché that never dies. If you’ve seen the trailer for The Ugly Truth you’ve undoubtedly seen the film. How it works: driven but unlucky in love singleton Abby (Katherine Heigl) meets rough-around-edges womaniser Mike (Gerard Butler). They’re about to fall in love but won’t know it for another 90 minutes.

First we have to see the Lothario advise the singleton on how to get her crush (Eric Winter) to fall for her using a series of antiquated misogynistic techniques ("eat the hotdog sloooooooowly” etc etc), whilst he, at the same time, falls for the real her himself. Undoubtedly, after his realisation, he will the start to sabotage the hook up for his own personal gain. Throw in a few barmy shouting incidents, some random hijinks, a few moments of equal parts confusion and sexual tension, some quirky characters on the sidelines, and wrap up with the inevitable get together. Done. So why are we featuring it? Hit “see more"…

- Firstly we’ve been in love with Katherine Heigl ever since we saw her in Knocked Up. 27 Dresses made our crush even worse.
- Secondly - if you want someone gruff and obnoxious to play the leading man you could do a lot worse than sex-on-legs Gerard Butler. Alsoran Eric Winter isn’t exactly hard on the eyes either.
- Thirdly, and we hate to admit it, but we’re absolute suckers for romcoms and will inevitably be crying into what’s left of our Fish Food Ben & Jerry’s by curtain close.
