The Saturdays - Higher: shit or hit? THEY’VE MADE A BLOODY GOOD SONG!

Let’s start with a quick hello to everyone at Fascination HQ - because obviously someone there has been perusing the pages of teentoday.co.uk and taking notes. How can we be sure? Well Higher, from the girls new EP thing Headlines, ticks EVERY SINGLE box on our Major Popstar Comeback To-do List detailed on our Missing You shit or quit, as well as some we hadn’t even thought of.

As a track premiered live at the girls recent sort-of festival circuit, we know nothing about who wrote or produced Higher apart from the fact they’re likely a genius, but we do know that it takes less than 30 seconds to acknowledge something’s gone horribly wrong when a track of this calibre has been shunted for Missing You.

An obnoxious line cuts through the song as a lift it / lift it higher chorus that could raise the dead forcefully demands you sing along whilst shaking booty and flicking your hair. teentoday.co.uk’s going to be the first to claim it’s their second Up and the track that will take the girls to the place they’ve always wanted to be - the top of the charts. That’s if it ever sees the light of the day as a single proper.

The pant-wetting thrilling bit? Well we all know it involves Una, but to ensure you don’t miss it, it’s when the song reaches its middle 8 and Ness and teentoday.co.uk’s favourite stomp forward to battle with their vocals. It’s about this point when you realise this IS the song that could cement the girls as the pop act we’ve always believed they could to be.

Live performances with as much energy, bounce and charm from the girls are few and far between but it’s obvious that they’re at last taking their comeback as seriously as they need to be right about now. The routine is as good as better than you’d expect, and for once appears to feature more bits that are in-sync, than not. We’ve perfected the ‘telephone’ and ‘arm swing’ moves but have a session booked at Pineapple Dance Studios next Tuesday for the rest. Lastly and probably best of all, Una’s dress being the Irish flag is a simple but significant touch. Maybe it’s all down to Mollie being AWOL.

And although we’re yet to test this theory it seems obvious that this song is set to pass the most important test of all (if they want the *real* third album to happen) - the ability to badge the girls as more than “those girls wot song Up / those girls in heat’s Spotted”. We’d bet our burgeoning pop career (who hasn’t heard our chir.ps?) and youthful good looks on the fact that in 6 months your mates that hate pop music will be saying “yeah, I quite like that one, it goes lift it lift it *hums it totally incorrectly*” which isn’t what good music’s about at all. But is what making money, and therefore releasing more music is.

So when TT speaks, listen, this is the song that has made us fall in love with the Rainbow Clan all over again - despite a career that sole purpose seems to have been frustrating Team TT. Important label types, please release this immediately and we’ll not say another word of you using our to-do list to shamelessly create the best pop song of 2010. Or something.

The Saturdays Missing You shit or hit? Comments below please.

Oh and even Dougie McFly likes it. He told us.

the song won’t save the saturdays they can’t be saved they just don’t have the it thing. The song although catchy is mediocre at best as are the rest of their songs. Come back GA.

On what planet do Girls Aloud “have it” between them the only ones who can hold a decent note are Nadine and Nicola! and singing together in there little 5-piece harmony seems to be a monumental task for them nowadays. There songs are old news and quite frankly they are getting old themselves. If they try to pull off a pop song that the charts now demand, its gonna sound like bad karaoke - or GA trying to be the Sats. Despite Cheryl not being the best singer in the world… she should stay solo. She would have more of a chance.. than with the group. Only reason they were liked so much was because once upon a time they were the only reasonable girl group visually and vocally, and the fact they -actually- stuck together without line up changes or break ups. After the what - 5/6 years theyve been together nice to see they have loyal fans.. But the Sats can evidently sing live far better, dance better and all 5 of them are stunning, unlike GA who has just Cheryl… Dont get me wrong GA songs have been good. But the Saturdays, after just two years as soo much better!

the only reason GA became famous was because of the show they won eight years ago. they had a million fans before they even released a single. the saturdays however were an unknown girl group who did’nt come from a tv show. they worked for their fame and they’ve only been around for two years. don’t get me wrong im a huge GA fan. but the sats are just better. they can SING. nicola and nadine are the only ones in the band that have DECENT vocals
