OMG! New Leona Lewis tracks leak

The much-anticipated (at teentoday.co.uk anyway) Leona Lewis sophomore album isn’t set for release until later this year but new tracks from the album have found their way onto the interwebs. Full songs Brave, Perfect Stranger, half complete Strangers, and a clip of I Got You, all thought to be from the new disc, have leaked. And we’ll be first to tell that they’re ruddy brilliant - demonstrating everything we loved about Leona - epic effortless vocals, great songwriting and dramatic key changes, but none of what we didn’t - saccharine schmaltzy songs with the sedative powers of 10 bumps of ketamine. Although just a clip - I Got You‘s an epic swirling soundwave, with hints of Siobhan Donaghy (her album Ghosts is one of the most underrated of all time by the way) and Madonna’s Ray Of Light days that marks it out as our clear favourite and will no-doubt be scrambling into our iTunes most played by Sunday. Perfect Stranger is up there too - with dark tones set against a throbbing beat and fantastic church bells that remind us of the Freemason’s Uninvited. We’ve got our dancing shoes on and are waiting for the remix. Please don’t disappoint us.

Brave might not pack quite the same punch but it’s a nice radio pleasing, if slightly middle of the road, slice of soft rock and does demonstrate the harder sound that Leona has been delivering live. Ultimately though it is saved by her glorious pipes. You’ve heard Stranger before. The half-complete song - with guest appearance by Ryan Tedder of One Republic for the second half - is a cookie cutter copy of his other productions: Beyonce’s Halo and Kelly Clarkson’s Already Gone including his trademark repeated word chorus (sing with us: stranger, stranger, stranger). Even though it’s more Bleedin’ Hell Not Him Again than Bleeding Love, we’re officially pretty in love it.

It’s not known if the tracks’ leak will push back the album’s release date or whether they were ever intended to be on the album - acts often record many more songs than make the final disc.

It has been known for record labels to deliberately leak tracks from albums to build hype and test the waters - but if these tracks are anything to go by they needn’t have worried. We’re now more excited for Leona’s follow up than ever - the record surely set to cement the girl from Hackney as a global superstar.
