Stupid question of the day: Lady GaGa Telephone video - shit or hit?

The man who inspired Telephone must be feeling pretty stupid right now.

Whoever you are, idiot who ignored GaGa when she was free, only to then interrupt her night out with your borderline stalking, I thank you. Because had you not been an utter div, the world probably wouldn’t be dancing around like their lives depended on it to Telephone right now. Nor would be have this spectacular video. In every cloud there is a silver lining, and this, my friend, is our silver lining. Hit “see more” for our Telephone shit or hit?

Lady GaGa is not a woman famed for doing things by halves. Never understated, this nine and a half minute opus is the sequel to the acclaimed Paparazzi video, and features all of the best things in life: catfights, cold-blooded murder, and coke cans being used as hair rollers. Oh, and Beyoncé is in there too.

It’s hard to see the song as a music video, purely because the song has been chopped up so much in favour of the Thelma and Louise-esque storyline that sees GaGa finally losing the plot, going mental and killing a heap of people. It’s kind of how everyone expected Britney to end up in 2007 before Jamie Spears stepped in and saved the day. Luckily for us, GaGa’s a free bitch, and mass homicide’s the order of the day. It’s all in the name of art and entertainment after all.

The theatrical plot of the video is so well done that you might actually find yourself resenting the brief musical interludes. Not the most traditional reaction to a music video, but this video is far from traditional. In fact, we were actually taken by surprise when the song actually started playing, almost three minutes in to the actual video. “Why has Telephone suddenly started playing in this prison?” we found ourselves asking, only to realise seconds later what a very stupid question that was.

It’s a wakeup call to other artists at the moment who, for so long, have been cruising along, spewing out awful single with dire video after awful single with dire video (not that I’m pointing fingers Joss Stone et al). There’s someone here who is rewriting the rule book when it comes to Popstar 101, and you lot need to catch up. Following in that vein, Christina Aguilera’s big comeback is going to have to be absolutely phenomenal after she famously said of GaGa: “I’m not quite sure who this person is, to be honest. I don’t know if it is a man or a woman.” Perhaps that first line of dialogue in the Telephone video is a nod to this quote and to Christina’s comeback. Kind of like a “Ha ha, look where I am now, no one cares about you any more,” kind of thing. It’s probably not, because GaGa has more class than that, but if there’s one thing we love at teentoday.co.uk it’s starting popstar feuds.

There’s another amazing dance routine for us little monsters to learn and recreate in our bedrooms, on dance floors, and…well, wherever you hear the song really. Just keep your fingers crossed that it doesn’t pop up on your iPod when you’re on your own in public. The urge to dance will take over and you’ll undoubtedly end up the unwilling star of YouTube video viewed around the globe, and haunt you for the rest of your days. Grim.

For those of you looking for fashion inspiration for your next hot date– you will not be disappointed. GaGa has at least 12 costume changes through the video. From leopard print to studded bikinis, floaty cover ups to laddered tights and tit tape, she wears it all. Expect a sudden rise in demand at your local charity shop for old-school telephones. We’re already sellotaping one to our head whenever we pop out for a pint of milk. Seriously.

The video ends with a mysterious ‘to be continued’ message. No one knows yet when the next part in the visual extravaganza will take place, but the world is waiting with bated breath. We’re genuinely clueless how she’ll better this but if there’s one lesson to be learned with this fantastic woman at the helm – where there’s a GaGa, there’s a way.

GaGa video - the best thing you've seen in your whole life or just the last 10 years?

I’m loving the new Lady GaGa video.
Everything from the smoking cigarette glasses to the coke can curlers scream Lady GaGa and the Tarantino inspired interludes are superb. I have heard people mocking Beyonce for her acting skills. Sigh, watch Kill Bill (if you’re old enough) you’ll get it, honest.

Bravo for GaGa, she has raised the bar so high even I can’t see how she can top it.

    I’m not sure anymore.
I’m a massive Beyonce fan and when I first saw it on Friday, I LOVED it!
I mean LOVED LOVED LOVED it, every little thing.
But then I had it pointed out to me, Beyonce just isn’t herself.
It’s like Gaga’s turning her into something she’s not. I know it’s just one video, but I don’t think I can watch it anymore, it actually upsets me to see Beyonce like that.
I fully wanted to love it forever though :’(

Omgosh Telephone is AMAZING! The video’s epic ( different than I was expecting) but awesome all the same! Loved the song since my sis bought The Fame Monster, so really glad it’s a single! Love how it’s like a film as well :D 10/10 best video ever smile Gaga can do no wrong (seen her live 2 weeks ago in Glasgow- AMAZING!) and can’t wait for the 3rd part of the to be continued… I reckon she (and Beyonce) were driving to Spain, (lol) so the next single is Alejandro maybe? haha though I’d rather it was Dance In The Dark xxxxx

If you could rate these comments, this one would probably be the worst rated EVER.

I don’t find the video creative at all. It’s just “same old” to me. GaGa annoys me and I want her to go away sometimes, and I hate Beyonce trying to be a gangster. Plus, the song isn’t even that good. It’s okay enough for me to download it, but it doesn’t need a video that is supposed to be so “epic.” Both vid and song are going to get played to death too!!

Like what else was she thinking than getting more attention than she already has? The answer is nothing. She doesn’t care if kids will see this sick music video or how will it make half of the watchers puke. This video is a joke more than for a award. Lady CaCa really crosses the line once again. Not cool!

Hmmm not too sure how I feel about it. Definitely epic in content but the video doesn’t have much to do with the song. And the product placements take a bit away from it. In any case, this is a hit, can’t get it out of my head ... and I love Gaga and Beyonce doing the Thelma & Louise thing!

I love how the vid opens with Gaga in nipple covers and fishnet tights...this gal has no shame whatsoever! Her style may be off the wall in most of the video, but I adore it...def plan on rocking pasties this summer under a sheer top! Won’t be too scandalous though since I have like negative boobs, haha.
