Why Jordin Sparks - Battlefield is also epic…

OK, we’ve admitted that we overuse the word epic but there truly is no other word to describe Jordin Sparks’ (great pop star name btw) new single, Battlefield, out on June 29. And of course, it has a bombastic video to accompany it. Click see more to check it out.

Battlefield was penned by writer/producer extraordinaire, Ryan Tedder, already responsible for many of the finest non-Take That power ballad moments this side of the last decade (that’s Leona’s Bleeding Love, OneRepublic’s Apologise, Beyoncé’s Halo and Kelly Clarkson’s Already Gone fyi). It also proves that Sparks, proud owner of a powerhouse voice that won her American Idol, can cut the ballad mustard without girlfriend-beater Chris Brown around to boost sales. And it’s basically Total Eclipse of the Heart for the noughties. All of which adds up to awesomeness of epic proportions.

The video takes all the obvious cues the song provides – Sparks strutting around a (quel surprise!) battlefield in a ballgown whilst smoke swirls and things blow up around her. Unimaginative, yes, but when a load of flares zoom up and explode at that pivotal ‘Go ahead and getcha armour!’ battle cry, unimaginative is exactly what the pop doctor ordered. Epic with a capital E (and P… and I… and C), we love it with a passion. But what’s your verdict?
