Fame 2009 - new trailer just in!

When we first saw the teaser trailer for Fame in the cinema, we may have let out a little squeal of excitement (admittedly, we were seeing 17 Again so we were already in an Efron-induced mood for squealing). They’ve now released a full trailer and it’s got us even more excited – click see more to see both previews, plus loads of photos from the film.

Good-looking youths singing, dancing and jazz-handing, without a fluorescent legwarmer or bad 80s’ perm in sight – what more could you want?! Alright then… Karen from Will & Grace and the iconic ‘Remember, remember’ bars from that awesome theme tune, that’s what!

When we saw the teaser trailer back in May, we were frustrated to learn that Fame wouldn’t be released until September; ‘Why on Earth are they showing us a trailer so early then?’ my friend asked. ‘To make people like us ridiculously excited about it, of course!’ was my answer. Now they’re further fuelling our anticipation with a trailer proper (alas the release date is still September 25, dammit!). Another one to add to our list of films we wanna see! Remember, remember…

It kinda looks like Center Stage meets Fame, which I guess I can get behind.  If the dancing is as good as Center Stage, and they add even an iota of more grit or reality than that film had, I’ll be happy.  Nice to see so many of my fave older Broadway vets involved too--Bebe Neuwirth, Kelsey Grammar, Megan Mullaly (OK they;re prob better known as sitcom vets, but...).  I’m not sure if it can compete against Alan Parker’s original film which I think, fashion aside, still holds up really well (well, if this one has a gay subplot, and it had bettyer, I hope they handle it in a more modern way), but it certainly has to be better than the Fame LA 90s tv series and the awful West End musical rewrite.
