The Big Chill
is described as a dance festival for grown ups. As well as the
main attraction of music, this festival offers attractions in
the form of art and theatre to ensure that every single member
of the 35,000 crowd has the opportunity for a truly individual
experience.
In case that is not enough, there is also a fancy dress tent
to allow yourself that added slice of distinctiveness.

Top Three: Mumm-Ra; Tiny Dancers; Blood Red Shoes. |
The world’s
first music festival exclusively for under-18s will be held
this year in London. 5,000 youngsters, aged 14-17, will be
given the chance to view some of the nation’s most promising
artists on three stages in an alcohol free environment. This
means that, unlike the other attractions listed, it is
doubtful that your experience will be ruined by a drunkard
throwing up on your shoes.
The festival is being organised by Underage Club, a music
venue started by the 14 year old Sam Killcoyne for the benefit
of the youth of London.

One of the most
popular festivals in England, the V Festival is a
predominantly rock affair but recent appearances from artists
such as Girls Aloud and Dido have shown an increasing tendency
to include several pop acts. This either gives you the chance
to catch something a bit different or the opportunity to
heckle some artists you are not interested in.
This festival is split between two venues across the country
and celebrates its twelfth occurrence this year. Spin off V
Festivals have been staged in Australia and the United States
to help promote Richard Branson’s company (the V stands for
Virgin).

The Carling
Weekend is one of the most prestigious and longest running
festivals in the world having started in 1961. It was
originally a National Jazz Festival but it has evolved over
the decades and now has a similar format to those found at T
In The Park and Oxegen.
The two venues, in Reading and Leeds, share most of the same
artists for the weekend. Last year’s event saw 80,000 people
in Reading and a crowd of 70,000 in Leeds.
Over the years, some of the world’s top bands such as Pink
Floyd, Ramones and Nirvana have appeared at this festival.

The Isle of
Wight boasts more carnivals per capita than any other area of
the UK. Bestival describes itself as a ‘boutique festival’ and
is one of the least commercial of the major musical
celebrations. Over the years it has won many awards, most
recently the 2006 Best Medium Sized Festival Award.
The
previous year, Bestival attempted to break the record for most
people in one place wearing fancy dress and a recent addition
to the festival has been an inflatable church that allows
people to get officially married. |
